“I solemnly swear that this Guacamole Cheese Sandwich roll ups is the best sandwich I have ever had” – Nachiket. Funny, right? Who solemnly swears about a sandwich?!! But those were the words from my foodie husband after he ate about 4 of them in one breath! 😀

Guacamole Cheese Sandwich Roll Ups

It’s been two long weeks since I posted a recipe. While two weeks does not seem all that long, staying away from blogging definitely stretched it. While I was away from blogging, there has been no dearth of cooking and food at home as such. The long weekend brought with it a much needed break and some old friends and fun. Since, this was the first they were visiting since I started the blog, I was all set to impress. We traveled a bit (which meant food from restaurants and Pizza joints) but the time spent at home was leisurely cooking, chosen recipes from the blog and games and movie marathons. Palak Paneer, Chocolate Lava cake, Undrallu and Poha were just among the few delicacies we enjoyed.

I know what you are thinking. The long weekend got over on Monday, what took me so long to get back right? A backlog of work and some more cooking; cooking and freezing food for Nachiket. Remember, I mentioned that I am flying to India for my brother’s wedding? Now you know my reasons but of course, I have a few photographs in my draft section all set to receive their share of limelight! 🙂

Guacamole Sandwich

I served these Guacamole Cheese Sandwich Roll ups as an after-work snack and I am not lying when I say it was a big hit! I am also not lying when I say I was surprised 😛 It was totally out of the blue that this occurred to me. I was quite skeptical about warm avocado and how it would blend with cheese. The result was brilliant! Nachiket says the brilliance is due to the moist maker in the sandwich; the layer of bread (that gets rolled up in between the guac and cheese) that absorbs the moistness and flavors yet retains a bite to it. Of course, his description of the moist maker sandwich was inspired from you know where 😀

Sandwich Roll ups

Whether it for your lunch, or appetizers for a party or just something to snack in the evening, these guacamole cheese sandwich roll ups are just ideal!

Here’s the recipe for:

Guacamole Cheese Sandwich Roll Ups

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Serves: 3-4

  • 1 big ripe Avocado
  • 6-8 Cheese slices
  • 6-8 bread slices
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped tomato
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Upto 2 tbsp butter

  1. Use a food processor or a spoon to mash the avocado to a smooth paste. Add the lemon juice in small additions while doing so. This keeps the avocado from turning brown.
  2. Add salt, chopped tomatoes and onions and mix well. Set the guacamole aside.
  3. Use a rolling pin to flatten a slice of bread. Chop the crumbs off.
  4. Spread a tsp of the guacamole on the bread. Top with half or one full cheese slice depending on your taste and the size of the bread.
  5. Roll the bread and use the guacamole to seal it.
  6. Repeat will all slices and set aside.
  7. Heat up a pan and smear 1 tsp of butter. Place the bread rolls and toast them until the begin to turn golden.
  8. Flip and repeat process by using as much butter as required.
  9. Serve hot with soft oozy cheese.

My Take:

Even if you notice that the bread is not sealed “tight”, it is alright. Go ahead and start toasting it. The melting cheese will do the work of sealing it.

  2. Wt can be used other den avocados ??

    • Hi Ahuti, Guacamole is made with avocados only. They are easily available in most supermarkets today.

      • I am from a small city. I have to google for Avocado to see how it looks. So you know finding it here in market is impossible. Any possible replacement?

        • Hi Nitin, avocado is the main ingredient for guacamole. While u cannot substitute avocado, you can achieve a creamy texture similar to it by using mayonnaise.

  3. Had a couple tbs of guac leftover from last night and was wondering what to do when i remembered seeing this post and tried it. Turned out great and such a simple recipe which can be made in mins. Loved it. Had it as a evening snack.

  4. Absolutely loved this simple healthy roll. This can definitely be served as an afterschool snack for kids.
