If you are keen on catching up with social media or information on ted talks during your work day, you better be able to multi task your job and needless to say, you better do it like an ace or you will fall behind!

I always took pride in the fact that I am a multitasker; especially when it comes to cooking. There is never a moment when there is just one pot cooking away on my stove or that I am not prepping the dish while the oil heats up or replying to comments on the blog while I wait for a dish (like matar paneer) to reach its completion.

Imagine my surprise when I realized in the recent past that when it comes to life, I am not that much of a juggler?! A few upheavals here and there and all my energy and concentration go into setting things right leaving me with none for my blog baby! Time for some self-improvement eh?

Well, with that thought in mind, I began cooking this super easy rversion of matar paneer. Fear not! You don’t have to be a pro multi tasker to make quick matar paneer (But, this curry in a hurry is a good place to start brushing those necessary-for-success abilities 😀 ).

Here is the recipe for matar Paneer. With some self introspective music in the background, make your quick matar paneer for dinner tonight!

Matar Paneer


Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Serves: 2-3



  • 2 cups diced Paneer
  • 1/2 cup Green Peas
  • 1 & 1/2 cup diced Tomatoes
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 3-5 Green chlies (or red chili powder if you prefer that)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp Oil


  1. Add the paneer (cottage cheese) cubes into boiling water for about 3 minutes. Turn off the heat and set aside. Let the paneer rest in the hot water until ready to use.
  2. Meanwhile Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds into the hot oil.
  3. Once they begin to crackle, add the green chilies (or red chili powder) and the diced tomatoes.
  4. Cook till the tomatoes turn juicy.
  5. Now add the green peas. Stir well; add the salt and garam masala. Cook for about 2 minutes.
  6. Drain the paneer from the hot water and add it into the pan.
  7. Cook covered for about 5 -7 minutes until the curry thickens and the paneer absorbs the flavors.
  8. Serve with naan or any other bread or basmati rice.

My Take:

Tofu makes a great vegan substitute for this popular Indian curry.

Addition of ginger and garlic to the oil adds stronger flavors to the curry. I have tried to keep the process quick and easy here.
