Perfect Oven Baked Potato


A perfect oven baked potato is just what you need when you are torn between enjoying time with family and feeding them all! This holiday season, I did bake some potatoes but no, I did not make mashed potatoes.  I used the meaty soft potato scoops for one recipe and the crispy skins for another.

 And, the whole thing was such a breeze requiring very little attention from my end. Making lots of food but not spending too much time in the kitchen? Now, that’s what I call a win-win situation! 🙂

Potatoes All of us have heard of the saying, “Too much of a good thing” but how many of you have actually had too much of it? Me, Me, Me! I have had just too much of vacation time. How badly do I want to get back my comfy mundane routine (Although, my routine is anything but mundane, I admit), I can’t even describe. There’s something about the soothing lull of routine which makes one want to get back to it, wouldn’t you agree?

 If you read my previous post on Baingan Bharta (Smoked & Mashed eggplant), you might be aware about how I was staggering back to reality after an almost-three month long vacation. And then poof!, we decided to take another vacation, this time with Nachiket and his parents (who are visiting us on their vacation) to visit more family for a fortnight! And then, poof again!

 All of us decided to take a mini vacation together to another place altogether! Oh My! My head is still reeling with fun. I am heading back home tomorrow with a bag of mixed emotions but I can’t wait to get home! 🙂

Perfect Oven Baked Potato

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 60 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour, 5 minutes

Serves: 6-8

Perfect Oven Baked Potato


  • 4-6 large potatoes
  • Oil for brushing the potatoes
  • Salt to season


  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F
  2. Wash and scrub the potatoes with their skins intact
  3. Rub the potatoes with some oil. Poke them around with a fork.
  4. Sprinkle some salt over them, place them on baking trays and bake them for about 60 min (or until the insides are soft when you poke a skewer through).
  5. Check on them midway flipping them around as required.
  6. Once done, let them cool for a while and cut them open. Scoop out the soft meaty potato and… Careful! They are hot! :D

My Take:

If you intend to serve those potatoes just baked, season them with some roast garlic & herbs and a spoonful of butter.
