I sat with a glass of Tomato Slush this afternoon and wished the Texas heat away, one sip at a time. Then another and another but the sun had tuned me out. The heat has only been increasing with every passing hour!

Tomato Slush

There is something all of you must know about me. It might come across as strange but I hope that you will not shy away from me and support me through these times when I am forced to look at it almost every day. I HATE WATER MELONS! 😀 How many of you just exclaimed “whaaat?!!”? Ha ha 😀 That’s the way it is for me guys. Water melon to me, tastes like Styrofoam dipped in sugar syrup! The coolers and slushes, I can give them a shot, given no choice but not the fruit itself. However, the photos of water melon look like thirst quenchers personified. So, I was reminded of this tomato slush used to have as a kid. Back then I just added sugar into it and called it a juice.

Tomato Slush

I improvised the recipe a little, made it sugar and called it tomato slush because come on, tomato juice is just not competition enough to the world’s favorite water melon and it sounds like I am making curry! The melony in the title refers to no melon in the slush, just the look and the texture but you sure won’t miss it!

Watermelon Slush

You must try this Slush even if it just for a change from your regular coolers and it will keep you hooked! Here is the recipe for a sugar-free

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 2-4

Ingredients

  • 4 cups diced tomato
  • 1 tsp black salt
  • 1/4 tsp chaat masala
  • 2 tbsp honey

Directions

  1. Blend all the ingredients together.
  2. Run it through a strainer for a smooth drink. I used a strainer but not a very fine one. I let some of the fiber pass through into the drink for a water-melony texture.
  3. Serve chilled.

My Take:

If you do not have black salt on hand, use regular salt but lesser.
